STAGE 1

The challenge

The project aimed to automate the welding of the wide range produced by the company. The increasing cost of wages for welding specialists and their decreasing availability led the company to look for new solutions in this area. The welding process was considered to be the most labour-intensive and priority for optimisation. The large size of the structure and many technological challenges related to the welding operation required, in addition to robots, the use of specialised automated instrumentation.

STAGE 2

Solution

A number of automated fixtures have been designed for the CLOOS robot system. The fixtures, equipped with a system of automatic clamps and hydraulic cylinders, not only guarantee the correct basing of the structure, but also provide the possibility of performing technological deflections that eliminate welding deformations. The tooling is fully automatic, the only operation required of the operators being the positioning of the workpieces. Moreover, the line is so flexible that the manufacturer can produce a whole family of semi-trailers, both steel and aluminium.
